Golf Tournament the Bomb!

September message from
2008 EBCA President
Kelly Sullivan

The golf tournament was the bomb! I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as I did! I want to be sure to mention the fabulous group of folks that worked on the tournament to make it what it was; FAN-TAS-TIC! Please join me in thanking Frances Hewitt, Kim Tamayo, Justine Bone, JoAnn Dean, Dawn D 'Ocampo, Patricia De Rouen, Steve Drake, Phil Hughes, Tom McIver, Ken Ridings, Brian Saari, and Lisa Winn.

Thank you to everyone who donated backpacks for the Backpack Charity Drive for Calaveras County. Brian Saari reported that over 25 backpacks were received and that the kids’ reactions were priceless! I am so proud to be a part of the EBCA, where so many of you members give unselfishly year after year!

We have a lot going on, considering we are nearing the last quarter of the year. First, if any of you have any interest in being involved in the Association as an Officer or a Board Member, please let me know as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Chris Capels, (who has done a fabulous job as Vice President) will be unable to move into the position of President next year, due to the travel requirements of his job. This means that we need to start thinking about our next year’s President! Ray Depa, with Crawford & Company, has graciously volunteered to assume the role, if there is no other interest. However, this is not typically an assigned position, so anyone interested, please come forward! I have served as Vice President in 2007 and President this year and can tell you that the experience is amazing and rewarding and, frankly, a lot of fun! Please don’t hesitate to get involved!

Our September meeting finds us back at Zio Fraedos and we have Al Wenzell of the Wenzell Law Firm speaking to us on successful mediations. I have known Al for over 15 years and have attended many mediations with him as defense counsel, so I know we are in for hearing some good stuff! Please mark your calendar and as always, bring your appetite!

In October, we will be moving our lunch to Friday, the 10th. This is because we are combining our luncheon with an afternoon of wine tasting in the Livermore Valley. Some of you may recall, when Bob Tucknott was President, we met at Concannon under a grape arbor outside and the experience was incredible. This year, we will have our lunch meeting, then head out to two other wineries to sample wines together for those of you who are interested. More details will be provided at the September meeting.

Also, don’t forget, the CCCA’s charity bowling tournament is October 2nd in Morgan Hill. This event is something you don’t want to miss, so if interested, contact Denise Garcia at denise.garcia@marriott.com.

Finally, start thinking about our Christmas party! The party is set for December 5th; a Friday, and it will be in the evening. Our very own Bryan Harrison and his band will be part of the evening entertainment. Also, we have elected to have an optional theme for the party; Roaring 20’s!!! The Roaring 20’s were about jazz, fine dancing, fine clothing and entertaining, so be as creative as you wish! Put on a Flapper costume or gear up like a Gangster and get ready for some fun! Of course, if putting a costume together sounds like more of a hassle than it is worth at such a busy time of year, just come as you are! Everyone will be welcome, whether in costume or not!

I am getting excited about the Fall, it’s my favorite time of year and with the events we have in store, I can’t wait to share them with you.

See you on the 10th!

Warmest Regards,
Kelly Sullivan
