Getting to Know Our Members As We Grow!

April message from
2008 EBCA President
Kelly Sullivan

Well, I am not sure if it is an omen or not but we have had last minute speaker changes for the first three months of the year; all of which turned out to be spectacular! I hope you all enjoyed Andrew Kreeft of Low, Ball & Lynch as much as I did! Almost as entertaining was Vice President Chris Capels’ introduction of Andrew. Chris definitely needs more microphone time at our meetings!

I am hoping that, in April, our very own Harry Maurer comes through because he is such a character, and is currently working with the City of Vallejo’s Risk Management Department. Harry even agreed to let me shave off his trademark mustache at the luncheon, (just kidding, Harry!!!) The public entity stuff is different than most of the mainstream claims that many of us handle and I am really looking forward to hear about how things work from that end.

Our word of the month for March was “Peccavi”, which means a confession of a sin. Congratulations to Bob Tucknott! His tenaciousness paid off in searching for the definition and this month, he was the only one to get it right!

We had a blast at our informal pre-St. Patrick’s Day gathering at Masse’s in Walnut Creek. Many thanks to Kim Tamayo of Restoration Management and Tom McIver of CRDN for all their efforts at putting the event together! I love getting to know other people in the industry outside of the formal work atmosphere, and a good time was had by all. Don’t worry if you missed it; there will be plenty of opportunities for fun in the future, with Kim MacFarlane of PW Stephens planning our Saturday wine tasting bus trip to Napa and Kim Tamayo of Restoration Management working feverishly on our golf tournament. We are also thinking about an A’s game or an outing to the horseraces. What do you think?! Member interest in all these events will, of course, dictate how many of them we have, so please let me know your thoughts/ideas!

I hope you all had a relaxing Easter weekend and were able to enjoy the sunshine. With the temperatures hitting 74 degrees on Easter Sunday, I was envisioning future weekends poolside with a margarita. I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather, too.

This month, we wanted to pay special tribute to our beloved Marlon England. I hope you will take a few moments and read our In Memoriam tribute and some of the heartfelt tributes others have given Marlon that we have posted on the web site. Rest in peace, our dear friend. We also just learned of the passing of Gene Riggs, a stalwart to the industry. All the best to Gene’s family, as well.

As always, be safe and have fun until we meet again. I look forward to seeing you at Zio Fraedo’s April 9th!
