EBCA Educates First & Foremost
Monthly message from
2006 EBCA President Robert A. Tucknott

Following a bit of confusion in the transition of the Board of Directors, we successfully kicked off 2006 with our first meeting of the EBCA at the Radisson Hotel. We enjoyed a great meal prepared by the hotel staff, even though they got a late notice of our meeting.

We have now signed a contract with the hotel to secure the rest of the dates for the year. I also added the January meeting for 2007 so the new administration will be able to have time to get a new contract in place.

Our speaker, Dick Audley, provided us with a very informative update on case law decisions affecting the insurance industry this past year. As has been his custom, he concluded with an amusing non-insurance related case. His case of the year may have caused some discomfort among some of the members, based on its rather adult content, and perhaps the manner in which he framed his explanation of it. On behalf of our Board, I would like to express our apologizies to anyone who may have been offended. Though we are all adults, perhaps ours is not the forum for that.

The folks in attendance did gain some great knowledge and insight into goings-on legally in our industry. The lively question and answer period after Mr. Audley’s presentation was informative as well. The balance of adjusters and vendors was as even as we’ve seen in a long while, which I take as a very good sign for our future.

I’m happy to report that we have a new Treasurer! Phil Hughes, our Past President, who was our Treasurer before that, has agreed to step back into the role. Suzanne Herman has elected to go to Hawaii to get a graduate degree in her chosen field of accounting, and we wish her well.

Again, I would like to thank Debbie Ginestar for fulfilling the secretarial duties in the absence of our newly appointed Secretary Carol Valenzuela at the January meeting. Carol was called away on a family emergency. Thank you Carol for taking-on this assignment. I hope everything is going well in your family.

We are pleased to announce that we’ll be going outdoors for our October meeting. The board has elected to organize that monthly luncheon at a winery in the Livermore area as a specially added venue. Stay tuned and we will give you more information as it is booked.

The Board has planned to do a Christmas party as a Friday night affair December 1, 2006. Mark your calendars also for our annual golf tournament (in lieu of an August luncheon). Headed up again by Randy Agnetti, this year’s tourney will be August 18, 2006 back at Boundary Oak in Walnut Creek.

Looking forward to an exciting year. We are off to a great start. We encourage you to work with us to build up our membership and attendance to the benefit of all.

Sincerely,
Bob Tucknott
