From Coaching to Mediation and Claims,
Building Relationships is Key

Lavtiodis enlightens and entertains at June EBCA
By Bryan Harrison, Association News Network, Inc.

An unexpectedly large crowd turned-out for the June 10, 2009 East Bay Claims Association luncheon meeting. The first such gathering back at the Radisson Hotel Dublin/Pleasanton in almost two years, the pre-lunch reservations showed only 40 people would be attending. When all was said and done, some 90 plus showed up.

"It's great to have so many people coming out," said EBCA Secretary JoAnn Dean, of Restoration Management Co., "but from a logistical standpoint it's just unmanageable to have so many not make reservations."

Fortunately for all involved, the folks at the Radisson were able to accommodate the extra swell of people, both with seating and the buffet lunch.

Included in the turn-out (with reservations made ahead of time) were several former major players to the EBCA predessors, the Mt. Diablo Property and East Bay Adjusters Associations: Steve Anderson, Carmie Cindric, and Penny Bailey among them.

The crowd was a-buzz as guest speaker Chris Lavtiodis stepped to the mic. Mr. Lavtiodis, a profesional mediator and highschool basketball coach, proceeded to entertain and enlighten the crowd speaking primarily to the issue of team-building and gathering consensus. He sited stories from all areas of his life to illustrate human behavior is various situations, and how working to a common end helps all concerned achieve their desired results.

He also spoke to such issues as personality differences between highschool boys and girls - he coaches boys and has two teenage daughters at home.

Mr. Lavdiotis made for a perfect guest speaker for this return to Dublin meeting. The crowd was very receptive and engaged, with several good questions posed at the end by members in attendance.
