Einhaus in mid-story during his lively discussion on “Dos & Don’ts of Adjusting. |

Einhaus shares experience with the crowd at May EBCA Steve Einhaus poignantly reminded us at the EBCA May luncheon that these are changing times. With good humor, a few personal stories and some great book recommendations, Steve held our attention, all the while teaching us some of life’s great lessons. Steve’s topic was ‘The Do’s and Don’ts of Adjusting,’ and we learned a lot on both sides. We also learned some anecdotal, albeit relevant trivia…for example, we now know that when we are content, our brains are at optimal function. Getting a good night’s sleep, getting involved in what we are doing, and finding a sense of satisfaction in life will all lead to contentment. “Optimal function,” however, is not based on these things alone. Additionally, an increase in serotonin and dopamine levels, (“smartamine, as cleverly referred to by Steve) in our brain function will result in us feeling good. Steve pointed out that three of my favorite things lead to this; laughter, dark chocolate, and red wine. These are actually proven to activate the neurotransmitters in the brain that enhance concentration and mental alertness…And once we are alert, we can focus on what to do and what NOT to do… From the global to the very specific and finite, Steve gave some great advice from an independent adjuster’s perspective. Steve’s first “Do,” was based on the aforementioned; The remaining “DO’s” are; Steve allowed for some exchange among adjusters in the group, for claim horror stories, or memorable mishaps, and shared a few himself. Steve’s message came across as pragmatic and realistic. Let’s face it, things go wrong. Things change…but if we all continue to strive for success, then we have some influence over the outcome of these things. Steve defined ‘success’ as not being right all the time, being honest, working hard, networking and mentoring. Steve’s contribution of his time and energy at our meeting exemplified just those things. Steve may be reached at: 415-238-8767 or Steveeinhaus@gmail.com. |
