Festive Valentine’s Day EBCA luncheon
By Bryan Harrison
The electricity in the air mounted on the walk down the hallway to the meeting room set for the February 14, 2007 Valentine’s luncheon gathering of the East Bay Claims Association. Patricia de Rouen and Ken Riding were there greeting folks, with EBCA Secretary Carol Valenzuela checking folks in, and Kim Tamayo and Justine Bone taking memberships. It was all quite festive stepping into the room. Decorations, raffle prizes, and table centerpieces set the tone.
EBCA president Karen Cowan welcomed the large crowd, and the meeting was under way. Secretary Carol Valenzuela read a list of paid members, each of whom in attendance received a cool little magnet-backed EBCA logo pin.
Speaker Committee Chair, Kelly Sullivan, then introduced guest speaker, forensic electrical engineer Tom Shefchick, who jumped right into his presentation, adding another electrical spark to the event.
Mr. Shefchick’s presentation on electrical issues relating to personal injury cases was thorough and enlightening. 12,000 volts can do some amazing damage when touched.
Tom covered a lot of ground, using slides and video as an integral part of illustrating the detail involved in investigating electrical claims. Obviously, the use of a qualified forensic electrical engineer can help make or break a case.
Reported meeting attendance included a full one-third adjuster representation, including a good number of folks from CSAA.
Raffle prizes abounded, and the 50/50 raffle prize was won by Jenna Testa of ServiceMaster of Livermore.
Each month in 2007, table center pieces are being hosted by various folks. Valentine’s tulips were presented at this meeting by Patricia de Rouen, of Restoration Mgmt. Company.
