The first outdoor luncheon of the year at the Radisson Dublin came together beautifully, with very pleasant (just before the massive heat wave) July weather. A shaded buffet with the line going out over a scenic little bridge, added to the overall setting. Kelly Sullivan and Bill Haack look on as Jack Tjeerdsma quips about finding a quality mediator.

Jack Tjeerdsma, of Mediation Resources, discussed the value of experience and neutrality in finding a quality mediator. Tom Shefchick was recognized for his recent award as a "Fellow" of the Nat'l Academy of Forensic Engineers. EBCA President Bob Tucknott, of Tucknott Electric Company, kept the mood light with his "hat of the month". Welcome back to Allen Brody, who has joined Montgomery Sansome Contractors. Jack Tjeerdsma shares his vast knowledge of what constitutes a quality mediator
By Bryan Harrison

photoA beautifully mild sunny day set the stage for the first East Bay Claims outdoor luncheon meeting at the Radisson Dublin on July 12, 2006. EBCA President Bob Tucknott was in seasonal style with his woven hat, and the overall mood was cheery and light.

The day saw a strong turnout, continuing on the theme of growth. Guest speaker, Jack Tjeerdsma, of Mediation Resources, provided a thorough and interesting look at selecting the best mediator for your needs.

Golf Chair, Randy Agnetti, announced that many people have made verbal commitments to the August 18th event, to be held at Boundary Oak Golf Course in Walnut Creek, but that it's time now to get the money in! Registrations are filling fast, so "get on it", he advised.

The 50/50 raffle was won by a first-time attendee, Ms. Justine Bone, of DataSafe, Inc. Justine was invited by EBCA Speakers Committee Chair, Kelly Sullivan, and says she is looking forward to returning to the group at future luncheons.

Also present after a long hiatis was Allen Brody, who is now with Montgomery Sansome Contractors. Allen is on the mend after fighting a mysterious illness. Welcome back.

Additionally, Art Coussoulis, president of the Sacramento Claims Association made a guest appearance. Art, who is with CSAA, has been making the rounds to the various regional associations. He's becoming more involved in the planning committee for the Claims Conference of Northern California and says that it just makes sense that we get to know the folks involved in other groups.

In his discussion on mediation, Jack Tjeerdsma stressed the value of a mediator with broad experience. Neutrality, and the ability to get both sides to come to an equitable settlement are ultimately what you're looking for.

There will be no August luncheon meeting, as we prepare for the 4th Annual EBCA Golf Tournament on Friday August 18th. Contact Randy Agnetti at 510-772-2411 for more, or download the registration forms, complete them, and send it in with your check ASAP!
