Jeff Allen on Civil Litigation Settlements at February EBCA

Join the EBCA in welcoming guest speaker for the Wednesday, February 11, 2009 lunching meeting Mr. Jeffry W. Allen. Mr. Allen is a well-noted attorney and partner in the Walnut Creek firm of Van De Poel, Levy & Allen.

He plans to present a brief program on "Settlements in civil litigation--what you need to know." This presentation will cover issues relating to pre-litigation settlements/enforceability of settlements where one party gets cold feet; court ordered Alternative Dispute Resolution, so called "ADR" programs (including mediation, early case evaluation programs and other options to avoid full blown litigation); strategic use of statutory offers of compromise to resolve cases.

"Jeff Allen contributes a broad range of legal knowledge and valuable practical experience both to the firm and to our clients," states the firm's web site. "He is a Martindale-Hubbell AV-rated attorney – a mark of distinction that illustrates his level of skill, integrity and professional excellence."

Jeff is experienced in all areas of litigation and trial work, including Personal Injury, Business, Products Liability, Professional Negligence, Employment and related Civil Rights Litigation. He also serves as local counsel for national retail and transportation companies on a variety of litigation issues, and serves as a private and court-appointed arbitrator.

A highly sought-after public speaker, Jeff frequently lectures to claims and risk management associations and private corporations on topics such as litigation strategies and management, his lectures often qualifying as Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB).

Jeff Allen is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Alameda County Bar Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco, the Contra Costa County Bar Association, the Association of Northern California Defense Counsel, and the Defense Research Institute.
